Description
Emancipation Day- We were in Nassau on the way home to San Salvador, Bahamas. Heard chanting and singing, turned a corner and found ourselves in the middle of an Emancipation Day parade. The African Bahamian Rasta believe they belong in Ethiopa and are asking to be sent back to their ancestral home. Hard to argue with that. This gentleman in particular caught my attention with his intensity and dignity. 25 X 25- collage. Torn and cut paper over acrylic sketch (over another female portrait now long gone.)

THis piece is hands down amazing. Your TALENT and ability to mix mediums and create a piece that conveys so much emotion is astounding. I really appreciate the fact that it is a portrait of a real person. I wish we knew his name, wouldn't it be grand to actually give him a copy? Congrats!
Li Newton replied:
Thank you for your very generous words Maureen. I would love to find him and give him a copy. I know his church so I may be able to find him though it has been a few years.

I love the way you elevated the original photograph to this expressive collage, Li! The head wrap is gorgeous and your treatment of the beard is imaginative. Well done! Congratulations on taking 3rd Place in the latest Collage Logo Contest! Fav/tweet!

Thank you so much for moderating the group that highlight collage as a higher art form. I'm honored to be among the participating artists.
